"It has been an honor and a privilege to be selected as the Grand Marshall for the 2018 Graffiti Festival and Parade and to join the 2018 Inductees for the "Legends of the Cruise". First of all, I would like to say THANK YOU to Allen Beebe for consenting to have sis 1932 Ford Hi-Boy lead the parade. What a Blast!! But the real excitement soared with the cheers from all the friends and neighbors and car enthusiasts who both watched and participated in the Graffiti celebration.
This is the time to share our passion with each other and the future generations! It all started for me with a fender bender in the family car when my father handed me a rubber mallet and said "you wrecked it, you fix it!" I've been in the auto industry ever since, teaching auto mechanics in the military, working in the service department at Valley Rambler, body shop manager at Alfred Mathews and Ray Starn's, and Certified Appraiser for several banks and insurance companies. During those years I have vuilt several street rods, have been active in local car clubs, service organizations, and community events."
What Don Wood will not tell you was his active role in petitioning and persistence in requesting the City of Modesto to bring back the spirit of the cruise and "American Graffiti" spirit to the streets of Modesto. It was his challenge and persisitence that allowed the annual tradition of the "Cruise" on the city streets of Modesto. His hard work will be ever appreciated by those who lived the time of the cruise, and to those who celebrate its memory for years to come.
Thank you Don Wood!!!!
